Private Whisky Tastings

If you’re interested to book in for a private tasting at Hop/Scotch, please see all the information below, and email us on contact@hopscotchliverpool.com to book in.

What does a tasting include?

Our tastings always include 5 whiskies, which we choose according to your preference (if any). During the tasting we will talk you through each whisky, for a total of 20-30 minutes, and afterwards leave you to finish the whiskies at your own pace.

How much do tastings cost?

The minimum price of a tasting per 1 person is £35, and the maximum is around £80 (any price point in between can be chosen). The budget will determine age and rarity of the whiskies chosen. Please see below for a rough reference of what will be included according to price point.

£35pp = 5 whiskies, each around 6-12 years old
£50pp = 5 whiskies each around 15-18 years old, likely all cask strength single cask releases
£80pp = 5 whiskies generally 20-30 years old, or in some cases younger but bottles that happen to be rare

how MANY PEOPLE CAN BOOK ON?

We can host a minimum of 1 person, up to large groups of 24, however any tastings for more than 6 people at a time will need to be booked in at a quieter time for the bar, and potentially before we open for large groups including hen and stag groups.

how long does a tasting session last?

As mentioned above, to talk you through the whiskies takes around 20-30 mins on average. Depending on how many questions you may have this could also take longer or less time. Once we leave you to drink the remainder of the whisky it’s up to you how long you prefer to take! On average most sessions last around 1 hour, but we mostly block out 1.5 hours for the session.

types of tastings

Please expand the options below to look at the different types of tastings we can provide for you.

  • All whisk(e)y is produced from nothing more than grain, water, and yeast, with the resulting alcohol being aged in a wooden cask. This tasting has been curated to show just how vast the flavour and aroma spectrum of whisk(e)y can be, despite the fact that they all come from those same simple origins of grain + water + yeast + wood. This is our most popular tasting, and is a great gateway for people to dip their toe into the world of whisky, or for the more experienced we can incorporate whiskies that will impress the most discerning whisky enthusiasts

  • If you love Scotch, then this is the tasting for you.  Scotch whisky is our wheelhouse at HopScotch, and makes up the vast majority of our stock, so we won’t be short of whisky to choose from.  On this tasting we’ll pick five whiskies from our ever revolving backbar stock, most of which are single casks from independent bottlers, so it's more than likely  that you won't have come across these whiskies before.  We'll select whiskies on the day that will showcase a range of styles from Scotland's 120+ distilleries.

  • Whisk(e)y originated in Scotland and Ireland, but since then whisky production has been far reaching, spanning almost the entirety of the globe.  As whisk(e)y has travelled, completely different styles have emerged in some countries, while other countries such as Japan have opted to produce a Scotch adjacent style of whisky.  In this tasting we'll choose 5 different whiskies that will quite literally give you a taste of the world of whisky.

  • Peated whisky is a style that divides opinion, some people love it while others despise the stuff.  If you're part of the camp that loves peated whisky then this is the tasting for you.  Not all peat is the same; the bog where the peat has been sourced from plays a major role in peat composition.  In addition to where the peat has been sourced from, the shape of the stills, distillation cut points, and the level to which the barley has been peated (measured in phenol parts per million), all have their own role to play when it comes to peat expression in whisky.  On this tasting, we will choose 5 whiskies to guide you through what this style of whisky is all about.

Booking & Cancellation Policy

In order to secure your booking you will be charged a 20% deposit of the overall booking price. The remainder will then be paid on the day. If you can’t make the date but want to change it, we are happy to accommodate you, with no charge or loss of deposit. For cancellations within 24 hours, or no-shows, the deposit is non-refundable.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
