Fully matured in a refill ex-Bourbon hogshead. Balmenach uses worm tubs, a very traditional way of condensing the spirit vapour coming off the stills. Only a handful of distilleries use this piece of equipment, but what it does is contribute to producing a weighty and oily spirit by retaining more sulphur compounds. Bottled at 46.3%ABV for Thompson Bros’ Mystery Malt Series 5.
