Epris 11 Year Old, 2011 Vintage - Chorlton Whisky x HopScotch Joint Bottling

£59.50

This one has been a while in the making and we’re very excited to be a part of it!

A while ago David from Chorlton and myself sampled a few different casks of rum, and this one was a bit of a bonus - but we both found it fascinating, and and at a point where it was ready to be bottled. Here’s a little bit about the rum.

  1. Brazilian rum from the Epris distillery.

  2. 80% cane juice and 20% molasses.

  3. 53.6%ABV.

  4. Matured in ex-Bourbon and Amburana wood.

Despite being a big rum fan, I had never tried anything from this distillery but was impressed by its complexity and uniqueness. This bottle only landed with us on Friday so I haven’t managed to really review it since it’s been bottled, but here are my notes from the sample we tried a couple of months ago:

Nose (initial):  Aniseed balls, Maraschino, fenugreek, church pews.  Nose (with time in the glass): Fermented pineapple, Amontillado, red dates, and horse sweat.

Palate: some syrupy tinned fruits up front, peach schnapps, and galia melon, then starts to become more bitter and drying with notes of lime rind and IPA.

Finish: ferment-y, overripe pineapple, bitter leaves (bay, kaffir lime, eucalyptus), liquorice root, lime rind and tequila at the very end.

This is one that really benefits from time in the glass as it really evolves with a bit of air time.

Most bottles of our allocation got sold on the launch night, so we don’t have too many left - if you miss out with us, David will be launching his on the Chorlton Whisky site sometime in the week.
